One of the quintessential early American house styles was the Georgian Colonial. The style originated in England, taking its name from England’s four King Georges. American Georgians, though, are simpler than the more elaborate English homes they emulated. Side-gabled roofs, square, symmetrical shapes, pairs of chimneys, pilasters around the front door, and dentil molding along the eaves are telltale features. Clapboard and brick siding added to the homes’ dignified exteriors. A take-off of the Georgian style, the Federal style was similar in shape, but included many more decorative flourishes, such as swags and Palladian windows. On many early homes, the Georgian and Federal styles were combined.
This group of Georgian-inspired house plans from Sessa Corporation has stately appeal. Two-story entrances, brick facades trimmed with quoins, and arched windows add dimension to the Colonial box. This new take on the look results in greater curb appeal as well as airy, open floor plans.
